Already Gearing Up for the 2011 Winter X Games

It’s hard to wrap your mind around the idea of snow and cold weather when temperatures are constantly hovering near 90, but the recent announcement of the 2011 Winter X Games dates has shifted our thoughts to a cooler place. Winter X 15 will be held in Aspen, Colorado from January 27-30. It seems that Aspen might become the permanent home for this event as this is the 10th consecutive year that the games have been held there. The location of the event is Buttermilk Mountain, which has a summit elevation of 9,900 feet with a 2,030 vertical rise. There are 44 trails covering 21 miles across 470 acres in this impressive ski park. The Winter X Europe games will take place in Tignes, France, March 16-18. This Winter X Games, held every year since 1997, is a competition of the world’s best snow sport athletes, hosted by ESPN. Events include skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. These games are gaining widespread popularity with attendance growth and record-setting ratings for ESPN. The Europe version of this event has also been well received and is broadcast live in a number of countries and distributed to over one hundred more.In addition to the unbelievable skill and performances that can be seen at these events, the X Fest is another source of crowd appeal. The interactive X Fest Village includes autograph signings, video games, musical performances, and giveaways. This is a great place to stop by in between events.If you’re an extreme sports fan, you probably have your sights set on the upcoming Summer X Games in August, but be looking out for tickets, competitors and events for the Winter games as well. This is sure to be another impressive year in the Aspen highlands.
