Lindsey Vonn: America’s Skiing Phenom

If you pay any attention to winter sports, you know that Lindsey Vonn is a force to be reckoned with. She has won four World Championship medals; 2 gold and 2 silver, and in this year’s Winter Olympics, brought home a gold and bronze medal. She also won the overall World Championship in 3 consecutive tournaments, the first American woman to do so.Vonn was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and was pushed to succeed by her father Alan Kildow, a junior skiing champion. Her first two Olympic performances in 2002 and 2006 were disappointing with lower place finished and injuries that held her back. In 2002, her highest rank was 6th place. The next time around at the 2006 games she suffered an injury during training but still competed, finishing in 8th place. Her first World Cup appearance came in 2000 when she was only 16 years old.This talented athlete has achieved worldwide fame and has become quite a celebrity. Vonn was featured in a Sports Illustrated issue this year about Winter Olympians. She was also ranked 59 on Maxim’s Hot 100 list. Vonn is married to U.S. Olympic skier, Thomas Vonn, and has a very close relationship with Maria Riesch, with whom she also competes on the slopes.On top of everything she’s already accomplished there is still plenty in store for this 25-year-old star. She is currently in off season training and has spent time at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center in San Diego and will be spending 3 weeks with ASP Red Bull.
